Imagine yourself relaxing at a tropical theme park where some of the main attractions range from snorkeling to seeing and experiencing an ancient Mayan village and everything fun in between. This resort is Xcaret Park (eesh-carette) and is a self-described eco-friendly, “Disneyfied” ecopark visited by thousands each year. At Xcaret Park you have a wide range of activities the whole family can choose from, one of the most popular and unique is the chance to snorkel in a 1,590ft underground river! The underground rivers at Xcaret are part of an ancient cave system underneath the Yucatan peninsula and were once a site for ancient Mayan civilization. Also by the term “underground” it doesn’t mean that it is pitch black and scary, most areas are long tunnels with light easily visible. Snorkeling through the rivers is easy and relaxing for the whole family to enjoy. All you need is a life vest while the guide leads you through the calm, shallow waters (only about 5ft deep or so).  There are also many areas to stop and rest on the shore if you feel like taking a break for a while where you can enjoy all the wildlife around you. Once you’re finished up with your snorkeling adventure, you can grab some food from one of the many restaurants in the park and maybe see the turtle hatchery or swim with the dolphins there. Xcaret has so much to offer in terms of unforgettable and irreplaceable experiences that you simply must visit it!
